Description
Describing the story behind this image, photographer Greg Kinch wrote: "I remember seeing this man holding his baby son. The scene stood out because one doesn't see that many men in the village of La Merced. They often leave to find jobs in large cities or in other countries. Thus, they don't have the freedom to return home very often and spend time with their growing children."
Canada funded a project in central Ecuador to help farmers grow organic quinoa. By learning organic techniques, farmers increased their crop yields and made more money. When the men were away, the village women grew much of the quinoa crop.
