Title

2000

Description

This small boy works long hours in the Muslim quarter of Jaipur, India, inside a dark, dust-filled room where gems are polished. He should be in school but works to earn money to help his family survive.
Canada has for many years supported action around the world on children's rights and child protection, with a special focus on child labour. Children work for many reasons, including the need to supplement their family's income or to earn the money to pay school fees for themselves or for their siblings. Canada supports the Promoting and Protecting the Interests of Children Who Work (PPIC-Work) initiative, which seeks to improve the working conditions and learning opportunities of working children.
