Description
Light from a window illuminates a small group of preschool pupils and their teacher, Madhu Ben Balu Sing Chohan, in a rural Gujarat classroom in western India. Madhu, who only had six years of schooling herself, reaches out to gently guide a small girl using a chalkboard. She says it is one way she can contribute to the development of her community. These children are lucky to be in school: millions of children around the world―especially girls―do not have access to quality education. The education of girls has been a major priority of Canada's international development assistance programs for many years.
