Description
The light in this beautiful photo illuminates the universal bond between mother and child. Set in a UNICEF-funded mother-child health centre in Phnom Penh, the image captures a serious moment. However, we have the feeling that the baby, having received oral rehydration, will be just fine.
The image was an image of hope for Cambodia as it emerged from a long period of genocide and occupation, able to offer its citizens rudimentary health care and other basic social services.
Canada has helped improve maternal and child health in developing countries for many years. Canada continues to help ward off and control preventable diseases, improve infant and child health, reduce maternal deaths, and improve food security and nutrition.
