Description
This image captures an intimate family moment in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, as a daughter helps her father with his prosthesis. His lower leg was amputated after an injury sustained in the 2004 tsunami that devastated parts of Indonesia, killing 128,000 people and injuring thousands more.
One senses their happiness, excitement, and relief: the father is getting a device that will enable him to walk, allowing him to look forward to more self-reliance and a better quality of life. The prosthesis was provided by the Mennonite Central Committee as part of a large project to help people injured in the tsunami.
