Justin Ngendahimana, 13, lives in the small southern town of Butare at the OPDE (Oeuvre humanitaire pour la Protection et le Développement de l'Enfant en difficulté) Centre, an organization that protects vulnerable children, keeps them off the streets, and offers counselling, health care, and educational programs. He was born about one year after the April 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
Canada is contributing to the rebuilding of Rwanda by supporting such centres as the OPDE, helping farmers diversify their income, advising professionals on rebuilding the justice system, and building new homes for returning refugees.
