The gaze of this young man is intense. He is photographed in contemporary dress in a traditional village in the Embu region of Kenya. We note the bold, horizontal bands of saturated colour and the asymmetry of the young man resting with his back against the wall. This contrast between the traditional and the contemporary reflects the transition many developing countries experience.
