At the Blace border crossing, Kosovars are admitted into the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the first days of the NATO air campaign against the former Yugoslavia in March 1999. These few refugees would swell into the tens of thousands as the air and ground war intensified.
The families carry infants, young children, and a few belongings into safety. We see a girl smiling toward the camera, connecting with us, the viewer, as she heads toward an uncertain future.
